Family Law Mediator in Jacksonville
Providing Family Law Mediation Services throughout Northeast Florida
If you are involved in a divorce or family law matter, from child custody and visitation/time-sharing to child support, spousal support or the division of marital property, a lengthy trial can be emotionally and financially costly and provide results that satisfy no one. To take control of the outcome and to minimize the time, expense and financial toll, you may want to consider using family law mediation as an alternative means of dispute resolution.
At the law office of Combs Greene McLester, in Jacksonville, we provide family law mediation services to individuals who want to avoid the emotional and financial costs of litigation and work cooperatively to find mutually beneficial ways to resolve child custody, visitation/time-sharing, child support, spousal support or property matters. We act as a facilitator, helping you identify solutions that can work in the long term. To learn more about the advantages of family law mediation, contact our office or call us at 904-302-6409 (toll-free at 866-491-6362) to schedule an appointment.
How Does Mediation Work?
When you hire us to help mediate your family law dispute, we will act as an impartial third party, working to find common ground. We don't represent either side, but are bound to help you find solutions that benefit everyone involved. We will listen carefully to your concerns, so that we can help identify the types of compromises that will work for everyone, but we don't take testimony or listen to legal arguments and we don't issue any rulings or make decisions for you.
Our goal is to help you come to agreement on all issues that would otherwise be left to a judge who may not fully understand your situation. If we are successful, we will draft a contract that you both sign and which will be enforceable in a court of law.
Why Mediation?
Family law mediation has many advantages over the traditional divorce process, including:
- Reduced emotional and financial consequences - In the traditional divorce process, you are almost always involved in confrontation and conflict, which takes a heavy emotional toll. Additionally, the process can involve many hearings, depositions, the gathering of evidence and preparation for trial, all of which can be financially costly. In mediation, you work cooperatively and you don't need to be represented by an attorney.
- Solutions that last longer and provide healthier family relationships - Especially when there are minor children involved, a negotiated settlement not only allows both parties to be a part of crafting a solution that benefits them, but the children get to witness their parents working together to promote their interests.
- Greater involvement in and control of the final outcome - In the traditional divorce process, you won't know the outcome until the judge renders a decision. This decision may not meet any of your goals or needs. In mediation, you get to work together to identify up-front what you want and need and negotiate to make those items a part of the solution.
- Less formality - Mediation is more about learning how you can come to agreement than it is about rules of procedure. There are no objections to statements or to evidence, so you don't need to worry about what you can say and when you can say it. The goal is to find common ground to reach an acceptable agreement.
- Privacy and confidentiality - Anything you say during mediation is strictly confidential and cannot be used outside of the mediation.
